Chris has over 30 years' experience in the tax advisory arena, having started his career with the Inland Revenue. Following periods with four big firms Chris went on to become an equity partner in BDO, where he ran the private client group for 10 years.
Chris specialises in Private Clients and their businesses, with a specific emphasis on offshore and international matters; many of his clients are either non domiciled, non-resident, or have business and property interests overseas.
A particular focus for Chris has been advising professional practices on their domestic and international tax structuring and in dealing with the tax and financial affairs of Partners; another topical matter has been the tax implications of transferring pension schemes from the UK to an offshore jurisdiction.
Chris lives in Shenfield with his wife and two sons and has an interest in anything with an engine; he drag races a motorcycle during the summer.
After graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a degree in Law, Barrie trained and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser with KPMG. Since that time, Barrie has spent the majority of his career working for “top 25” accountancy practices and was formerly a tax director in the Colchester office of Chantrey Vellacott DFK.
Whilst Barrie usually advises across a wide range of taxes, he spends a large proportion of his time focussing on inheritance tax mitigation, family wealth preservation using trusts and also advising on tax efficient business structures. The latter can often involve the restructuring of corporate groups.
Barrie lives in Benfleet with his wife and two sons and during the summer months, he can normally be found on the local golf course.
